Radiofrequency Ablation Kills Breast Cancer Safely and Effectively

  What is radiofrequency ablation?

  Radiofrequency ablation is a therapy to kill tumors by inserting a heat source conductor into the tumor through minimally invasive percutaneous puncture under the guidance of imaging devices. After the conductor is inserted, its electric pole is electrified. When it reaches a high temperature, the tumor will be heated to death. Radiofrequency ablation has clear target and powerful force, producing no toxic side effect to normal tissues while leaving the dead tissues in the body transferring into harmless scars. Radiofrequency ablation has the same effect as that of surgery, which gains it the name "treatment without knife"----knife ablation.

  Principles of radiofrequency ablation

  Radiofrequency ablation is a treatment to kill tumors by using electrical energy to heat and solidify the tumor cells to death. Radiofrequency ablation has multi-pole radiofrequency ablation needles and multi-point temperature monitoring system. It can reach a temperature of 125 ℃. During the treatment, the temperature of the target area is real-time monitored to guarantee the safety and effect of the treatment. Guided by imaging devices, like DSA, CT or B-ultrasound, an electrode needle with 10 pin cores is inserted into the tumor through percutaneous puncture. Then the pin cores in the front of the electrode needle are unfolded and in the head of the electrode needle stretches out 10 small claws, which firmly grasp the tumor like an umbrella. High frequency current creates high-speed ion vibration and friction in the tissues around the electrode needle, which produces heat. When the heat reaches 80 - 100 ℃, the tumor is wrapped by a fire and is solidified to death. Thus, the local tumor cells are killed.

  The technical mechanism of radiofrequency ablation may be related to the associative action of the permeability changes of cell membrane, the electrolyte disorders within the cells, the protein denaturation, the replication damage and solidified death of DNA. When the temperature rises to a high degree, the protein in the cells denatures, the bilayer lipid membranes melt, and necrosis of cells is unavoidable. Moreover, the new tumor vessels to some degree has physiological regulation defect, which makes the tumor weaker in resisting high temperature than normal tissues. Thus, the high temperature performs strong destruction to the tumor.
